Will Sachin Tendulkar Retire Gracefully?
Sachin is almost crossed 20 years in international cricket. He is not yet retired. May be planning his retirement after his 6th World Cup participation. While retiring, will he retire gracefully? No clue. In sports, graceful or proud retirement is happening to very few people. Somebody might have performed well in their early and middle periods of their career. But may fail to perform in later ages. Society started expecting their retirement from sports for giving entry to next generation sports professionals. Gavaskar is the one who made his exit perfectly and proudly among Indian cricketers. Azharuddin though sparkling in his early and middle career, but failed to make up in the later stage. His retirement was not graceful. May be ungracefully. Imran Khan, the Pakistan cricketer retired gracefully. On the other hand, Wasim Akram did not have such a proud exit like Imran Khan, but he had what he deserved. Imran Khan retirement was a timing one, he announced his retirement after winning the world cup. His mistakes, debacles(if he had) in the past have been faded away by the sparkling moments in winning the world cup. Everybody knows How was the retirement of Inzamam-ul-Haq, one of the pakistan skipper. Ranatunga, SriLankan Cricket team skipper had a graceful retirement after winning the world cup. Steve Waugh, the Australian cricketer who won the world cup for Australia, did not have a graceful retirement. He lost his berth in ODI while leading Test team of Australia. After the disaster gifted to him by VVS Laxman of India during their Test match tour in India, his past glories faded and his retirement went normally. Mark Waugh retired earlier to Steve Waugh but without a buzz. Donald, South African Bowler though did well in his career, did not have a proud retirement. He retired during when South Africa exit the world cup in the league round. Not even qualified for Semi-finals. Moreover, world cup was held at South Africa. South African cricket fans might have forgot to honor Donald in their early exit from World Cup. Retirement is an important moment to every cricketer or any sportsman. Pete Champ retired after reached his peak, but before started falling down. He was the undisputed king of Tennis at the time of his retirement. We know how Sourav Ganguly retired, and how Dravid or Sewag is going to retire. In Cricket, as a player, you play well in a match, completed your 50, marching towards your 100, but get out in 90s. How do you feel now? If you do not have a graceful and respectable retirement, even though you achieved well, but you feel like missed a century in 90s. If you completed your 100 and get out, but you feel a sense of 'completeness' and satisfied. For cricketers retirement is like a century for their whole career. Sachin Tendulkar is still continuing even after crossing average retirement age in international cricket. Will he have a graceful and respectable retirement at his 6th world cup or miss out a 'career century' in his 90s. Cricket is not a one man show. How Sachin Tendulkar is going to retire is in the hands of rest of his team members during the coming world cup. Let us hope for the greatest retirement ever happened to a cricketer in the history.
