Salesman
A good salesman can be compared to an ambassador of a country who echoes the feelings, policies, principles and programs of his country. So too, a good salesman should represent his firm in all its spirits.
When we examine this walk of life in detail we are reminded of our own country men who were engaged in TRADE with other countries like EUROPE, AFRICA. They had crossed the tumultuous rough seas not in a modern sophisticated ship but in wind driven vessels.
They not only engaged in the exchange of merchandise like pepper, turmeric, neemseed, etc, but really they carried with them the message, culture, salient concepts of our nation. So too the other nationalites came to our country with their commodities to be sold here. With them they have their own living habits, religious faith customs, and manners. This is real salesmanship.
Such foreign concepts have a deep root in our soil and not only they spread their message of Jesus Christ and Islam but they succeeded in conquering us in politics economic and culture. One could see the spirit of salesmanship from this.
So also our spiritual leaders like Swamy Vivekananda, Swamy Sivanandha, Swamy Sachidhadh, Yogananda and other greatmen did carry the message of our culture.
Nowadays the salesman do business in marketing of consumable and non consumable products which involves many other aspects. At times the salesman has to work in odd hours and at times due to lack of proper transport and communications one has to utilize all his talents and energy to convert a customer to take up his products. For this he should be like an advocate who has to submit all his facts and figures. Relevant evidences, besides presenting the citations of other judgments else where. So also the sales man has to do it. Not only that, there are many others who deal with the same goods marketed by different brand and trade names and he should be able to add extra or additional aspects in his goods.
A Sales man has to bear all physical and mental hardship in marketing his goods. At times he may have to travel by two wheeler or other vehicle to reach the customer in time. Time factor is quite important to keep up engagement with men of medical profession. Besides he has to be satisfied with the available food stuff either in a way side tea shop or in a five star hotel.
A good salesman, besides the excellence of his goods he should also present in a acceptable manner by the customer. For this, he should be widely read and kept abreast of modern developments. He should also know the weak points or side effects of the goods supplied by other similar companies and convince his customer that his products are more effective and less costly than others.
Above all, good salesman should have a full grasp of the topic of the day to begin the conversation like weather, music or other histrionic programs going on in the town and around. But he should avoid politics and religion. Those subjects will lead to different of opinions and arguments.
