Blogging is a powerful medium of expression. Use it productively and positively. I realized this recently.

In my two articles related to stress management and office politics, I mentioned the company name. I worked there till 2005 April. Mentioning the company name was unintentional. It happened accidentally. I avoid personal identification of anybody in my scribblets normally. If anything appreciation, I will try to show recognition.

A representative from that company called me over to my mobile and requested me to remove their company name. I immediately understand and accepted his request. With a top priority I removed their company name from those pages. I am not here to fight with anybody meaninglessly.

This incident made me to feel few things.

Never Never Never harm or attack anybody directly in blogs. Look for the life to appreciate something in the blog rather than criticize. Blogging has attained the status of public media, use it with a journalist attitude rather than personal diary.

I am quite happy my blog has regular visitor. Definitely that company will allocate a human resource and time to keep watching my blog. Keep reading my blog for checking whether I have put their name or any offensive content. I am little surprised and happy as how they landed to my blog and noticed their company name. Is my blog so popular or Search Engine Friendly? :)

Asking me to change my content, is a sort of human rights violation. They were tress passing my 'Freedom of Expression'. I could have resisted their request, but few thoughts stopped me.

I am very much thankful to that company in many ways. Technically I learned many things while working there. Career-wise, my confidence level increased tremendously by the works I completed there. If I am achieving anything as a PHP programmer, the whole credit goes to Senthil Kumar. He was my Technical Leader when I was working there. I was groomed to be PHP developer by this guy. I hope he will not request me to remove his name from this page, since thousands of persons available in this name. It is very difficult to find a company name by its employee name. Of course, if he request me to remove his name, I will remove. :)

There is difference between company and a an individual. Company provides money, status, a meaning to the life of its employees. By getting a job employees get a status in his/her society. His/her parents will be happy. The salary distributed from the company to its employees is benefited not only the employees but also by the relatives and friends of the employees. There will be money flow in the society from the private companies through its employees. Where the Government fails to provide source of income and use the human resource wasted, it is the private companies took the opportunity successfully. Unemployment is reduced by private companies when Government is not able to address the issue.

After getting married, I was in a stark need of job. I never know where I would be if I did not get an offer from that company. I got an 'entry'. Like me many young graduates from southern districts of Tamilnadu get a free breath in their life by receiving the offer letter.

Unemployment is worse than Stressful employment.

The relationship friction between the individuals(employees) should not spoil the reputation of the company, which may affects its business. Company as a whole is more important than individual/ego frictions between the employees. Through that company God distributing the source of income to around 500 people directly and around 2000 people indirectly. My individual bitter experience with my immediate boss(another team leader not Senthil) is not the whole experience of that company.

I am little concern that the company's reputation should not get affected by addressing it negatively. By any means if the company's business gets affected, it is the source of income to the employees get affected. My individual grievance and anger is not more important than livelihood of 1000s of people depending on that company for their source of income directly and indirectly.

Company is an independent entity, It has its own mission. It may stumble upon somebody and favor somebody while doing its 'karma' like earth providing shelter to many people at the same time crushing many people(earthquake, tsunami, flood, fire, volcano, etc). Karma should not mind the people's feelings. It suppose to be done whether we like or not. By doing the karma company feeds its employees.

Every company has 'disgruntled / disliked' ex-employees and employees. Management should not be running behind their opinions and feelings. Management should ignore such things. If they keep monitoring (ex)employees' personal activities, they can not sleep, loose their peace of mind. It is best to ignore both good and bad comments from employees and proceed on its path. If the CTO of the company still 'following' my blog with a fear or danger or aversion or anger, it is a sense of immaturity to dodge me. :)

As per God's plan, I a had great mentor and bitter experience from that company which led me to quit. Anyway, I still remember the spirit I had when working with Senthil.

Hi bogar,

Recently I have gone thro' the following article from rediff.com.
Could you please publish this for your blogya readers.

The Layoff Tales: 'I learnt my actual worth'

March 23, 2009
We asked Get Ahead readers to send their layoff tales and we are getting mails from employees belonging to different sectors of the Indian economy.

In the 21st part of this series, Ankit Sharma tells us why one should not take huge liabilities that could spell trouble later.
Name: Ankit Sharma (name changed)
Age: 33
Company/Sector: IT/ Investment banking
Work experience: 3 years in an IT company and a stint with investment banking.

Background:

I had pursued an engineering degree in computer science from PESIT, a top engineering college in Bangalore. I did very well academically and got a campus placement offer from a leading software company in my third year of engineering at a CTC of Rs 4 lakh per annum in Bangalore.

Things were going great and my CTC doubled in three years.

In 2004 I got accepted into IIM Bangalore for an MBA in Finance. MBA was a different ball game and I found it difficult to adjust to the routine of studying. I struggled throughout the degree but did very well and ended up with a job in a leading investment bank in mid 2006 with a dream package of Rs 15 lakh per annum at their Mumbai branch. I got two promotions in two and a half years and reached a pay of Rs 24 lakh.

How I lost my job

Owing to the financial crunch our company was hit by huge losses and could not afford to pay such high salaries and starting laying people off. I was an immediate target as I was at a very high CTC. Office politics also worked against me. The HR was very firm however the company provided me with a good recommendation letter. This happened in October 2008.

Financial liabilities:

Things got a little difficult as I had to pay Rs 52,000 per month as my home loan EMI. I had used most of earlier savings on the down payment for the house. I regretted taking the very huge home loan and found it difficult to sustain myself. I had also bought a luxury car for which I was paying an EMI of Rs 17,500 per month. This just goes to show one must not be overconfident.

Tough job hunt:

From my academic qualifications and the IIM tag I got calls for interviews but no one was willing to pay me anything close to my earlier package. Another bank after five rounds of interviews offered me a CTC of Rs 6 lakh per annum. I was struggling to make ends meet and even defaulted on a few credit card payments. Lots of interviews happened but no job offers. I regretted not taking the earlier offer as nothing was working out. I even tried to find a job abroad but got no success in that.

After four tough months of job hunting, I finally got one in a leading bank with a CTC of Rs 15 lakh per annum, which I accepted.

Now I am still in financial trouble as over 85 percent of my take-home salary goes in paying off my loans and the high cost of petrol. Taking those loans was the mistake of my life and now despite having a big car and a house my finances are in a mess.

Lessons learnt:

# Never be too complacent of your position.
# Never take huge liabilities which could spell trouble later on
# I learnt my actual worth when the companies I went to for a job laughed at my expected CTC saying they pay their top management that amount.

Till date my commitment is my house rent only. I can rise or down the rent as per my salary.

When I was exposed to real estate market two years back, the price of the flats/houses got increased for every enquiry. If I make an enquiry today, there is price. If I make another enquiry after one week, there is a hike in price.

Moreover, I have the habit of purchasing anything out of cash on hand. Which saved me greatly during this global recession.

Of course my package is less than 30% compare to my last year salary, but I am living without trouble.

Please also read the value of our assets.
