Indian Middle Class Population
Indian middle class population have to vacate from its metro cities to sub-urban cities or satellite towns, because of increasing cost of living. Buying a house or renting a decent double bedroom house, sending kids to a quality english medium school, watching movie in a ciniplex are going beyond the reach of middle class family. During the post freedom periods, Indian cities attracted the people from rural towns and villages. Job opportunities, business opportunities, high quality education, hospitals have drawn the people towards the big cities. Cities were like 'Black Hole' during these periods. My city is Chennai. Till 1990, Chennai kept swelling. It was hungry to swallow any number of people. From 2000 onwards, it started expelling people. Pushed the people to its outskirts. Now it is ready to send the people back to their origin from where they have migrated to chennai. Those who are not able to pay its cost of living, will be sent back to their fore father's native place. Chennai lost its hospitality for middle class man. A middle income man can not buy a house in chennai as on date, even by loan. Forty to fifty percent of his income will go to pay the rent, if he likes to live in chennai. Chennai's cost of living will be going to compete with Newyork or London. We can not find a middle class family living in chennai city after a decade or two. Two sections will be in chennai. One is high income group and second is low income group. Low income group is allowed to live to serve high income group. Lack of Decentralization People can move to district head quarters or rural towns, if the employment opportunities, educational institutes, and hospitals are decentralised from major cities. This is not possible now, since decentralization is not yet initiated by Government or Corporates. Both the Government and Corporate companies are not ready to move out of metro cities. So, Middle income group of people have to move to satellite towns, within 100 Km range away from main city. If you are a middle class man and like to live in Chennai, ascend to high income group or descend to low income group. If you like your middle class life, but not ready to struggle for raise, chennai will expel you by its economic constraints. This is applicable to all middle income group living in Indian major cities. It is a fee must be paid for globalization, because globalization is not decentralized to villages and rural headquarters. The side effect of globalization is increasing cost of living. Related Articles |
