External Consultant

| |

External Consultancy is a different form of freelancing.

External consultancy may be something new to Indian software realm.

In external consultancy you do not need to bid like in normal freelancing. You work with a 'company', which do marketing and having sales team in US, Cananda, Europe or other developed countries, whose currency value is higher than India.

They get projects. You will be reporting to their India office executives or business executives or whatever designation they declare. They will mediate between the client and you.

You should play the role of a coder or leading a team of coders across the different places.

The 'company' which is mediating does not appoint any developer or recruit its software team. Their team is group of external consultants.

External consultants can have their day job. Apart from the office hours or including their office hours, they have to complete the project assigned by the external 'company'.

Pay for what is the work done, is the major advantage to 'companies' which run the show with external consultants. No monthly salary, no PF, no form 16 and etc.

As a external consultant, you are paid for how much do you work.

Who can be External Consultant
Only experienced people can avail the opportunity of external consultant. Freshers have no stake in external consultancy.

If you have freelancing experience, it is and advantage for you. The job nature is similar to freelancing. Here you do not need to bid.

Those who are highly skilled and experienced but poor in marketing or sales pitch, can be work as external consultancy for extra income. Remember, here no bidding pain. It is like a job without reporting to office everyday. You can work from anywhere.

Cost Advantage
Moreover, the hourly rate in developed drastically during recession. An American software engineer(?) can not work for $5 or $10 per hour. At the same time, an Indian software engineer can live comfortably in this rate, if he has 200hrs of work per month. This would be the end payout give to external consultants, but the mediating company charge more, or even at the rate of US scale.

US stake holders find it easy to get their projects done by outsourcing, since no permanent commitment to its software team.

So there is a very high chance for booming 'external consultancy' in India.

The Indian software companies burnt their fingers by paying sky scrapping salary to their permanent corporate employees. They will find external consultancy is an easy way to cutting cost and keep the business rolling.

The bidding at freelancing seems to be highly competitive and the rates are going down to earth. So it is right time for experienced freelancers to upgrade themself as 'external consultant'.

The problem in Finding an External Consultant
The existing job portals have to include an option to add ' Interested in External Consultancy'. Or it is a new scope for some Internet Savy to start a job portal where resumes of external consultants alone be posted. So, it is easy for the companies to reach consultants.

As an date, it is not easy to Identify that who is ready to work as external consultant. so any HR solution described above is appreciated.
